GPS No Signal or Weak Signal? Troubleshooting Guide

If you find that your dash cam's GPS fails to locate or the signal is unstable, it is usually due to signal obstruction or settings issues. Please follow the steps below in order to check—most problems can be easily resolved.

First, how to confirm if the GPS function has successfully located?
  1. Check the dash cam screen: Look at the status bar for the GPS positioning icon (usually a satellite or location marker).
  2. Check device settings: Enter the dash cam's [Settings] menu, find the [Latitude & Longitude Watermark] option, and ensure it is set to [Enabled]. You can view positioning information when playing back videos.
I have already enabled it, why is there still no signal?

GPS signals are very weak and easily obstructed. Please check your driving environment and installation position:

  1. Driving environment: GPS signals will be temporarily lost when you are in tunnels, underground parking lots, urban canyons with tall buildings, dense tree shade, or under large bridges—this is a normal phenomenon.
  2. Installation position: Ensure there are no objects blocking or closely adhering to the front and top of the dash cam (to avoid signal obstruction).
  3. Recommended solution: Drive the vehicle to an open outdoor area (such as an open parking lot), and the signal will usually recover automatically.
No signal even in open areas, what should I do?

If you confirm you are in an open area but still have no signal after waiting several minutes, please try the following operations:

  1. Factory Reset:
  • Find the [Factory Reset] option in the device's [Settings] and execute it.
  • This operation will clear temporary software glitches, not delete your recorded videos, but will reset your personal settings.

2. Be patient:

  • After resetting, keep the vehicle in an open area and powered on.
  • Under normal circumstances, the first positioning or re-searching for signals may take 5-10 minutes—please be patient.
I have tried all the above methods, but the problem persists?

If the GPS issue continues after multiple attempts, it may be a hardware fault of the device. Please contact customer service with your order screenshot. support@kawa-in.com

SD Frequently Asked Questions

In response to the common issues you've listed regarding SD cards, I will provide some more detailed answers and suggestions:

Unable to format or prompt of SD card formatting failure

Cause: The SD card may be damaged or incompatible with the device.

Attempt to format the SD card on another device (such as a computer).
Try to restore the device to its factory settings before formatting the SD card.
Disconnect the power supply, turn off the device, reinsert the SD card, and then turn on the device to attempt formatting the SD card again.
It could be an SD card compatibility issue. It is recommended to try a different SD card.

The device prompts slow card/abnormal video recording

Cause: Insufficient speed or damage to the SD card, resulting in slow writing speed or data loss.

Ensure that the SD card meets the requirements of the dashcam (such as Class 10 or higher data rate, U3 speed class).
Attempt to replace it with an SD card that meets the requirements.
It could be an SD card compatibility issue. It is recommended to try a different SD card.

The device cannot power on or exhibits abnormal behavior when the SD card is inserted

Cause: The SD card is incompatible with the device, or the SD card is damaged, resulting in failure to boot the device.

Attempt to power on the device without the SD card. If it can power on normally, the issue lies with the SD card.Try replacing it with an SD card that meets the requirements. It could be an SD card compatibility issue. It is recommended to try a different SD card.

Constant prompt to format the SD card

Cause: The SD card is damaged or the file system is incompatible with the device.

Avoid frequently inserting and removing the SD card to prevent damage to the card slot or SD card.
Before using the SD card, it is best to format it to ensure the file system is compatible with the device.
If the SD card encounters any issues, back up the data promptly and replace it with a new SD card.

Others

Dash cam automatically restarts or powers on repeatedly during use.

Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Check the Power Cable
  • Ensure you are using the original power cable provided with your KAWA dash cam.
  • Verify that the car charger indicator light is illuminated normally.
  • If a non-original power cable is in use, replace it with the official KAWA power cable immediately.

2. Test by Disconnecting the Rear Camera

  • If your device is connected to a rear camera, temporarily unplug the connection cable.
  • Observe if the dash cam still restarts without the rear camera connected.
  • If the restart issue no longer occurs, the original power supply is insufficient. Please replace it with the official KAWA power supply.

3. Indoor Power Supply Test

  • Bring the dash cam indoors and test it with a mobile phone charger.
  • Try the following two combinations separately:

① Official KAWA power cable + Indoor power supply

② Your own power cable + Indoor power supply

Record the test results to help identify the root cause of the problem.

Automatic Factory Reset

If the dashboard camera has not been used for a long time, it may result in the lack of power in its button battery, which prevents the camera from saving the pre-set content. Here's how to properly use the dashboard camera and ensure the normal operation of its button battery:

1. The button battery can generally only last for about a week, so it depends on how long you haven't driven your car.

2. It also depends on how long you drive your car again. If you only drive for ten to fifteen minutes, the button battery will not be able to charge sufficiently and cannot guarantee normal operation. To ensure lasting performance, it is necessary to charge the battery for at least 4 hours. Since the button battery has a small capacity, the charging time is usually required to be relatively long (it's best to charge it continuously or without interruption).

3. If you have driven your car for a relatively long time and the time settings are still repeatedly reset, it could either be due to a faulty button battery or a circuit malfunction.

Unable to start up normally

When the recorder does not power on, please check the following information:

1. Power Source:

  • Ensure that the car charger is properly connected to the vehicle's power supply, and the charger's indicator light is on.
  • Check if the car charger is the standard version or a compatible model.

o If using a voltage reducer cable, please check if it is correctly installed and connected to the vehicle's battery, as well as if the voltage reducer cable is the standard version.

2. SD Card:

  • Confirm that the SD card has been correctly inserted into the recorder's slot.
  • Check if the SD card is a microSD card with a capacity ranging from 16GB to 256GB.
  • Verify that the data rate of the SD card is U3 (UHS-3) or higher. If not, it can still be used, but the recording effect may be affected.
  •  If possible, try removing and reinserting the SD card, or try using another known good SD card.

3. Recorder Device:

  • Check if the recorder's exterior has any visible damage from collisions.
  • Ensure that the power socket of the device is intact and there are no gaps or damage to the metal contact points.
  • If the indicator light is not on, it may indicate that the device has failed to power on properly.
