Wi-Fi Setup & Connection

For KAWA dash cams | Website FAQ copy and visual assets

Key point:

Turning off Wi-Fi does not affect normal recording. Wi-Fi is only required when using the KAWA App to preview footage, view or download videos, or change settings.

1. First-time setup

  • Power on and activate the dash cam

Wi-Fi is enabled by default on first startup and cannot be turned off until app activation is complete.

  • Connect your phone to the dash cam Wi-Fi

Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select the network beginning with KAWA, then return to the KAWA App to complete activation.

  • Choose your preferred startup setting

After activation, you can set Wi-Fi to turn on or remain off whenever the dash cam starts.

2. Set the Wi-Fi startup status

  • App Path: Device Settings → Advanced Settings → Wi-Fi hotspot at startup.
  • On: Wi-Fi turns on automatically whenever the dash cam starts.
  • Off: Wi-Fi remains off at startup, while the dash cam continues recording normally.
  • Models with a screen: You can also change this setting directly in the dash cam menu.

3. How do I turn Wi-Fi back on?

  • Models without a screen

Short-press the device button once to turn Wi-Fi on or off. You will hear “Hotspot is on” or “Hotspot is off.”

  • Models with a screen

Turn on Wi-Fi in the dash cam settings menu, or set its startup status in the app.

4. Is “No internet” normal on Android?

  • Yes. The dash cam Wi-Fi is a direct connection between your phone and the dash cam; it does not provide internet access.
  • Your phone may show “No internet,” “Network unavailable,” or a similar message. Choose to stay connected.
  • After previewing, downloading, or changing settings, disconnect from the dash cam Wi-Fi to restore normal internet access.
  • Your phone may reconnect automatically later. If you rarely use the app, set the dash cam Wi-Fi to remain off at startup.

5. Important notes

  • Do not turn off the dash cam Wi-Fi or leave the app during preview, download, or settings changes.
  • Menu names and button locations may vary slightly by model. Refer to the actual device.
